Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Ahmedabad 

Established in 2003, GNLU is one of India’s premier National Law Universities and a top choice for legal education in Ahmedabad. Recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the University Grants Commission (UGC), it holds an A grade accreditation from NAAC and has consistently ranked within the top 10 law colleges in India by NIRF (Ranked 8th in NIRF 2024).

Nirma University – Institute of Law, Ahmedabad 

Since its establishment in 2007 as a constituent of Nirma University, the Institute of Law has grown into one of the top private law schools in Ahmedabad. Not only is it approved by the BCI, but it has also been re-accredited with an 'A+' grade by NAAC and ranked 20th among law institutions in NIRF 2024. 

Known for its practice-oriented pedagogy, the institute offers integrated 5-year programmes like BA LL.B. (Hons.) and BCom LL.B. (Hons.), along with a 1-year LL.M. and Ph.D. in Law. The curriculum is supported by legal aid clinics, international exchange tie-ups, and industry collaborations that offer real-time exposure to the legal ecosystem.

Admission Process: Through CLAT or ILNU’s own admission test (ILNUAT), followed by a personal interview.

GLS University, Ahmedabad

Opening doors in 2015, GLS University is a NAAC-accredited ‘A’ grade private university . It houses the GLS School of Law, approved by the BCI and UGC. Besides, the school is a constituent member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It brings in an integrated B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and a standalone LL.M. programme.

Motilal Nehru Law College, Ahmedabad 

Founded in 1961 by the Gujarat Law Society, Motilal Nehru Law College stands as one of the top semi-government law colleges in Ahmedabad. It is permanently affiliated with Gujarat University and approved by the BCI. Although the college doesn’t have an NIRF ranking yet, it does hold a ‘B’ grade accreditation from NAAC. 

Top offerings include a 2-year LL.M. with a specialisation in Business Law,  with research support available through its doctoral programme. What makes this college stand out is its low student-to-faculty ratio, which allows for personalised academic mentorship, and its extensive Gujarati-language legal resource centre, making it particularly supportive for students aiming to practice locally.

Admission Process: Merit-based selection through Gujarat University’s centralised counseling (GCAS).

Sir L.A. Shah Law College, Ahmedabad 

Standing tall since 1927, L.A. Shah Law College is one of Gujarat’s oldest and top standalone law colleges in Ahmedabad. Permanently affiliated with Gujarat University and approved by the BCI, the college has garnered a ‘B’ grade NAAC accreditation. 

The college provides a 3-year LL.B., 2-year LL.M. with Business Law specialisation, and Ph.D. programmes, blending traditional legal scholarship with modern pedagogical methods. Its strong focus on practical training includes moot court competitions, film‑based case studies, legal aid initiatives, and regular interactions with high court judges and senior advocates.
